Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

You do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist. Your physio is an expert in diagnosis and can order scans, including x-rays and MRI, if they are required. If there is any uncertainty about your diagnosis, or if you need advice from a medical team, then we can refer you to people who can help.

How long are your appointments?

Foundations are important, and to get off to the right start we spend 60 minutes together on day one. This gives plenty of time to understand you, assess and diagnose your problem, explain our findings in a way that makes sense to you, and then start treatment. Follow up appointments are 30-60 minutes, depending on the complexity of your injury and the type of appointment. An average follow up session is 45 minutes.

How many appointments will I need to have?

On average, we see people six (6) times. This gives us the ability to assess your injury, provide you with early treatment, track your progress, and then give you the skills to avoid injury and recover stronger into the future. However, some things are very simple, and we will only see you once or twice.

What is your approach?

We are committed to Ethical Healthcare and commit to the Australian Consensus Framework for Ethical Collaboration in the Healthcare Sector.

Central to this is a commitment to evidence base practice.

Current best practice guidelines are overwhelmingly clear and support education, active self-management and exercise for the treatment of injury and pain.

We work within a bio-psycho-social framework, and acknowledge that health is impacted by many factors. We aim for long term outcomes, independence from ongoing appointments. This means that we work hard to promote healthy behaviours, and also work with people to challenge and address limiting beliefs that they may have about their health and their ability.

By taking this approach, we often find that people not only recover from injury, but re-think their ability and the way that they relate to movement and pain.
